THE first annual James Corfield Cup was contested at Montgomery Cricket Club on Tuesday night.
The match pitted sides from Welshpool and Newtown High schools at the ground synonymous with the late Montgomery Cricket Club star.
The match pitted James’ former school, Welshpool against Newtown where his mother Louise works.
Louise Corfield hoped the annual cup match would promote her son’s favourite sport to each passing generation and preserve the legacy of the popular all rounder.
A large crowd turned out for the match which was played in wonderful conditions and good spirits.
Ultimately the first winners of the silverware was Welshpool who posted 102 off 15 overs before dismissing Newtown for 79 in reply.
