PENYBONT United have resigned from the Mid Wales League.

The Racecourse Ground club notified officials of its intent at the annual meeting of the newly known MMP and Norman R Lloyd Mid Wales League on Monday.

A club statement read: “It is with great regret that Penybont Football Club will be withdrawing but at this moment in time we feel it is necessary to take a step down to the Mid Wales South League and try and rebuild the club.

“It has been a privilege to participate in a league that is so well administered against a high level of competition and all supplying great facilities

“The positive comments we have received from our opponents during a very tough season have meant a lot to our players and shows how supportive every club is towards one another

“It was a difficult decision to make but the right one for Penybont United Football Club.

The Polecats join Talgarth Town in resigning from the second division and will be replaced by Rhayader Town, Four Crosses and Waterloo Rovers in the 14 club second division next season.

Leading the club’s drive to return to senior football will be current player Gavin Johnson who was appointed as manager earlier in the week.

Johnson takes over at the Racecourse from long serving clubman Phil Davies who led the club during its two year tenure in Mid Wales League Two.
