Robins boss Chris Hughes is playing a waiting game as he builds his squad for the coming season - due to Newtown’s lack of financial muscle.

Hughes says he has transfer targets identified and has yet to announce his retained list as players “look at their options” for next season.

Ryan Sears has returned to parent club Shrewsbury Town after the end of his loan spell, and midfielder Ryan Kershaw departed at his own request after the end of the season.

“It is a waiting game really in terms of getting people in because players are looking at their options,” said Hughes.

“With bringing new people in, as a club we can’t offer as much as other clubs, that is why it is a bit of a waiting game and we need to identify the right people and the right fit.”

“We don’t want to happen what happened last year with a big overhaul of players. I don’t think that will happen this time.”

Callum Roberts, who was on loan from Shrewsbury last season, has been released by his parent club and the Robins are hopeful of enticing him to Latham Park on a permanent deal.
