BISHOPS Castle Town hit back to triumph 3-1 at Maesyrhandir and be crowned J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League Honda Division One champions.

Phil Jones gave the Newtown side the lead and the Purples proved a match for the Shropshire side throughout an entertaining clash.

However Castle were not to be denied and hit back through Martyn Ziemann, Mark Griffiths and Sam Jones before being crowned champions.

Castle spokesman Lee Davies insisted the club would apply for a vacancy in Spar Mid Wales League Two next season.

However Davies conceded the club was more than likely to be rejected by the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

“I’m hoping common sense will prevail and the lads will be able to take their place in the division above next season.

“It would be great to get this ridiculous cross border agreement ripped up and allow this club to move forward.”
