FORDEN United were crowned champions of Mitsubishi Division Two of the J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League following a 10-0 drubbing of Welshpool Town Reserves.

Dan McWhinnie, Mike Henderson-Smith and Chris Webster shared the limelight with each completing braces.

Further goals from Tom Anderson, Brad Carr, Steve Roberts and Charlie Edwards completed the scoring as Jonny Roberts’ side were crowned league champions.

Roberts said: “It’s been a brilliant season.

“Our aim was to win promotion so to do that with games to spare is a massive achievement for this team.

“The aim now for the rest of the year is to win every league game and go as far as we can in the Village Cup.

“I’m really proud of the team for what they’ve achieved, the lads have all bought into the club plan and have performed admirably in our first season back since reforming.

“They deserve massive praise and all the credit for some simply outstanding performances.

“To win every game so far in the league and score over 100 goals is amazing and exactly the sort of standards we want to set ourselves here at Forden United.”

Meanwhile the club plans a busy summer to improve its Community Centre field facilities.

“Planning is already underway for the future,” said Roberts. “We’ve got a lot of groundwork to do this summer to ensure our pitch is at the best possible standard for next season and I’m very fortunate to have an engaged, ambitious and hard working committee backing the club up in wanting to push us as far as we can go.

“We’ll be looking to kick on from this brilliant season and hopefully perform well in what will be a highly competitive first division next season.

“We’re excited and looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
