Welshpool 118 all out lost to Albrighton 159-7 by 41 runs
WELSHPOOL’S testing start to the season continued with a 41 run defeat at Albrighton.
A 60 run second wicket partnership between opener Chris Morris and Alex Renton laid solid foundations for the hosts before the latter was caught by Matt McWhinnie off Matt Sherwood (2-28) for 25.
Morris was finally caught by McWhinnie off Rob Anderson (2-45) for 43 with Albrighton 87-4.
Despite Pool celebrating two run outs a swift 44 from just 50 deliveries from Darren Shimmons guided Albrighton to 159-7 to defend.
Adam Shimmons (6-24) tore through the Pool top order in reply with the visitors soon reduced to 66-6 as Paul Chapman (12), Nick Davies (14) and Patrick Davies (10) fell.
Captain Russell Cadwallader offered middle order resistance before departing to Shimmons for 26 before Hardeep Kumar (2-12) and Morris (1-23) polished off Pool for 118.
