COBRA Rugby Club in Meifod hosted the dawn of an exciting new era of girls rugby last month.

The North Powys High School girls rugby cluster festival was held to promote the launch of the Rebels girls rugby cluster.

COBRA, Welshpool and Llanidloes clubs have combined to usher in a new dawn for girls rugby in the region with the launch of the Rebels set-up.

Llanidloes will host camps every Tuesday from 5.30pm for under 15 and under 18 age groups with under 13 sessions on Thursday from 3.45pm.

Welshpool host camps for under 13, 15 and 18 from 6-7pm every Thursday while COBRA host camps for under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 18 every Thursday from 6-7pm.

Organiser and regional rugby development officer Dai Roberts said: “Our cluster ethos is to ensure girls can access our great sport in their preferred format in a girls only, fun and safe environment.

“It was a great success with more than 140 girls playing rugby in its various formats.

“A huge thank you must go to the schools that attended and to Sport Powys for their support.”
