BUILTH Wells overcame a battling Cwmgors with a 34-17 victory in division two west central of the Swalec League.

Captain Rhys Davies crossed for an early try to give Builth the lead only for Cwmgors to reply with a try from Rob Clive, converted by Paul Spowert.

Ben Pugh restored the lead following a rolling maul but the visitors hit back once more with a try from Cerith Dennard, converted by Spowert.

Builth edged a two point lead at the break with Aled Jones and Harry Jenkinson combining to release Wayne Morris for a try.

The Bulls extended their lead after the break with Alex Brown crossing for a try.

Tom Samuel fumbled a chance to settle the game before outside half Gavin Jones put the game to bed with an individual try.

COBRA staged a determined second-half fightback only to fall to a 45-33 defeat at Shotton Steel in division two of the North Wales League.

Steel raced into a 28 point interval lead with tries from Shaun Kemp and Shaun Myddleton while Dan Lynskey crossed twice and kicked two conversions.

COBRA hit back after the break with an early try from scrum half Rich Roberts converted by Rhodri Jones.

However indiscipline cost the visitors with Steve Isaac and Iwan Vaughan sin binned with Steel capitalising with tries from Myddleton and Kemp.

COBRA threw caution to the wind and almost pulled off their comeback with tries from Rhys Jones, Lloyd Bright, Jack Jukes and Rhodri Jones who also kicked three conversions.

However Steel held out to claim glory.

Meanwhile Llanidloes suffered a day to forget in a 101-7 thrashing at Dinych.

Paul Jehu’s try, converted by Adam Price, proved scant consolation as Gruff Roberts and Aidyn Jones both crossed for four tries.

Tom Seddon completed a hat-trick while further tries from Owain Davies, Garin Roberts, James Fisher-Jones and Dan O’Sullivan, who also kicked 13 conversions, completed the rout.

Elsewhere Trefyclawdd ran riot in an emphatic 106-5 victory over Cwmcarn in division three east D.

Joe Barrett starred with six tries while Stewart Morgan and George Hodnett crossed twice with Mark Tortoriello, Sam Barrett, Jamie Durban, Nick Davies and Owen Powell also crossing.

Seb Barrett completed the try count and kicked 11 conversions with Joe Barrett adding a further kick.
