BUILTH Wells will return to the top flight of Mid Wales football next season.

The Lant Field club secured their place in Spar Mid Wales League Two with a 2-0 win at home to title rivals Llansantffraid Village last week, sparking a weekend of celebrations in the South Powys town.

Following the club’s relegation to Spar Mid Wales League Two in 2014 efforts to be rebuild have been led by ex-Caersws and Presteigne striker Chris Jones and a hard working committee.

Jones confessed the club’s ongoing success this season had even surprised him.

“Promotion was aim at the start of season but I couldn’t predicted we would go this far unbeaten,” said Jones.

The Bulls manager insisted the current squad capable of stepping up to the higher standard next season having showcased their potential during this season.

“We have played a few Mid Wales League One teams this season and competed,” said Jones. “I think we are only few players off competing in the higher league next season.”

Jones brought Gavin Samuel and Tom Bethel to the Lant from Huws Gray Alliance side Caersws midway through the season while also recruiting the prolific Richie Powell from Llandrindod Wells to lead the line.

The added quality also helped Builth reach the semi-finals of the Central Wales Cup this season only to lose to Caersws in Rhayader on Tuesday night.

Jones said: “It was a commendable effort and we were very unlucky in defeat in what was a game that we could have won.

“However it was a proud moment for the club to have come this far in the senior cup.”

This Sunday the Bulls host the final of the Pip Samuel Electrical Mid Wales League South Cup with Rhayader Town seeking to complete a league and cup double against Presteigne Reserves.

The final kicks off at 2.30pm.
