Mid Wales trio in Brittany
THREE Montgomeryshire based players formed part of the Wales under 15s girls squad which travelled to Brittany in northern France this week.
Newtown’s Carrie Jones and Libby Isaac were joined by Maria Francis-Jones of Llanidloes in an 18 strong squad which travelled to northern France for two friendlies.
The matches formed part on an ongoing cultural exchange in a partnership between the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and La Ligue Football de Bretagne forged during the 2016 European Championships.
Wales lost the opening game at the Centre Technique Bretagne in Ploufragan with the French hosts recording a 3-1 win.
FAW Trust technical director Osian Roberts said: “These games will give our players the opportunity to test their skills against strong opponents.
“Many young talents have progressed rapidly from our regional and national development squads to the national team in recent years and these matches provide national managers Ryan Giggs and Jayne Ludlow the opportunity to assess those who are next in line.”
Jones, Isaac and Francis-Jones have emerged through the Welsh Performance squad.
