HOLLY Fothergill was the match winner as Welshpool moved off the foot of North Wales Women’s League One table with a 1-0 victory over Ruthin.
Pool dominated the game against their relegation rivals before the pressure finally told with Fothergill blasting her side to glory.
Club spokesperson Gez Charles said: “It was a massively impressive team effort. The pressure was on but we worked hard and we are delighted with the result.”
Newtown slipped to a hard-fought 1-0 defeat at Dysynni with a solitary strike from Lora Constable enough to settle an even encounter.
Meanwhile Llanfair Caereinion handed champions Ardudwy a fright before slipping to a 3-3 defeat.
Goals from Delyth Thomas and Mary Griffiths were not quite enough for Llanfair as Ardudwy prevailed with two goals from Siwan Jones and a Cari Davies strike.
Elsewhere Presteigne slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Cardiff University in division one of the South Wales Premier League.
Radnor celebrated an emphatic return to winning ways with an 11-0 drubbing of Swansea University IIIs in division two of the South Wales League.
Gwen Samuel led the rout with five goals while Rhian Farmer and Hayley Price both completed hat-tricks.
Radnor returned to the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Rhondda in Sunday’s re-arranged match with Hayley Price completing a double.
Montgomery battled gallantly against Wem before slipping to a 3-0 home defeat in the Shropshire League.
Meanwhile Newtown made the long trip home from Pershore empty handed following a 5-2 defeat in the first division of the West Midlands Men’s League.
Andy Denham and Richard Jones netted for Town but Pershore eased to victory thanks to a Rob Smith hat-trick and strikes from Stuart Bearcroft and Rob Smith.
