Holyhead Hotspur 2 Guilsfield 4

THE celebrations could be heard halfway across the Irish Sea as Asa Hamilton’s hat-trick completed a famous Guilsfield comeback at Holyhead.

Spurs raced into an early two goal lead with Jon Littlemore on hand to steer home the loose ball after goalkeeper Andy Wycherley could only parry Mel McGuiness’ low 14th minute effort.

The hosts doubled their lead five minutes later with Jamie McDaid converting a penalty awarded after Andy Ford was adjudged to have pushed a home defender in the build up to a Dan McGuiness free-kick.

The Guils hit back five minutes later with James Cook’s left wing cross spilled by home goalkeeper Paul Pritchard for Chris Cathrall to pounce.

The Guils were in the ascendancy with Cathrall going close before Hamilton levelled with a penalty awarded for a shove in the area on 28 minutes.

Hamilton converted his second penalty of the day on 37 minutes after being clumsily brought down in the area.

Hamilton completed his hat-trick shortly after the break with a composed finish after rounding Pritchard.

The remainder of the game saw both sides slog in worsening conditions but with no more goals the Guils celebrated their comeback of the season on the long journey back to Mid Wales.
