FORDEN Football Club is back in business.

The club was accepted into the Montgomeryshire League at the annual meeting at Llansantffraid Village Football Club last week and will compete in next season’s second division.

The club has appointed former Welshpool assistant manager Neil Breeze to the helm.

Breeze spoke of his honour at being the manager of the revived club which will take the place of the defunct Forden United which competed in the Montgomeryshire League for more than half a century after being founded in 1950 before folding in 2008.

The village had been represented in the Newtown Sunday League before the league folded due to a lack of clubs in 2011.

Breeze said: “I am delighted to have been appointed manager of the new club and cannot wait to get started. It is where I first played as a 15 year old so this is a great honour.

“Forden has always had a club in the past and it is great news that the village will be represented once again.”

Breeze has already made contact with over a dozen players to represent the phoenix club next season and was confident Forden could compete from the off in the new campaign.

Traditionally the former Forden club had endured a yo-yo existence between the first and second division but Breeze was confident the new club could hold its own.

“Players want to play for Forden and I am confident that I will have a squad in time for the new season. The committee are behind me and exciting times lay ahead,” added Breeze.

The club will be based at the village’s community centre ground where the defunct club and the village’s Sunday League side were based before their folding.

League secretary Bernie Jones welcomed Forden’s return to competitive football.

“Forden is a traditional Montgomeryshire League club and we have missed them these last few years,” said Jones.

“It is good to have them back in the league.”
