A CELEBRATION of Palestine, its people and culture is being held in Knighton this weekend.

Palestine Fest will take place on Saturday, June 19, from 2–5pm at Knighton Community Centre, and is being organised by Radnor Palestine Links.

This free celebration will be family friendly with samples of food and a range of activities, including a magic show by Ian Saville, the wonderful socialist magician, a creative/crafty workshop for children (3pm) and music from the Sometime Band.

Donations will be welcome to cover costs. There will be discussions, updates on the political situation, an exhibition and a ‘two-minute open mic’ for anybody who wishes to stand up and share their experiences, views and opinions of Palestine. Craft products from Palestine will be on sale and a large whiteboard will be available for visitors to send messages of support to the men, women and children of Palestine.

“Whether you are familiar with the situation in Palestine or not, locals will be able to learn more about what’s going on there, or simply enjoy a fun afternoon of food, music and conversation,” said Lee Coveney, one of the organisers of the event.

“All are welcome and I hope that in between the music, food and crafts, there will also be a chance for full and frank discussions about the realities of living under a military occupation and how the UK is involved,” said Angie Zelter, another organiser.
