Football fans at a Welshpool primary school dressed in red to help raise money for two charities that are providing vital medical care in the UK and Nepal.

Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School's very own 'Red Wall' raised £159 in the lead-up to Wales' Euro 2020 victory over Turkey on Wednesday (June 16).

Nine-year-old Niamh said: "Today has been really good because we've had lots of fun and been able to raise money for people who really need it." While Rocky, eight, added: "It's been nice to raise money for people to have better lives."

Pupils and staff raised funds for Tenovus Cancer Care and PHASE Worldwide by holding their own tournament sweepstake for this summer’s Euros.

Liam Gregory, teacher, said: "The pupils are loving every minute of Euro 2020, with all classes having their own sweepstakes and researching each nation participating.

"It was fantastic to see so many red Welsh tops in school, as well as the colours of the many other nations we are lucky to have represented in our school.

"The pupils have really got behind the two charities too. They listened to and showed lots of empathy during an assembly highlighting the need for fundraising in Nepal."
