A GP surgery has issued a warning to patients that abuse and aggression towards staff must stop.

Welshpool Medical Practice said that everyday staff have been subjected to verbal abuse from patients.

Staff said they will involve the police and Powys Teaching Health Board on "future outbursts" from anyone either on the phone or face-to-face at the front reception desk/dispensary counter at Welshpool or Guilsfield.

The warning was posted on the medical practice's Facebook page on Tuesday evening (June 15).

A statement said: "Drs Russell & Partners consider the health and wellbeing of their team very seriously.

"Every day the Practice Team are receiving verbal abuse from the very people they are trying to help. This abuse and aggression must stop.

"It is not acceptable for the Practice Team to be subjected to aggressive and abusive language when they are doing their job.

"The words that patients use stay with our Practice Team long after they have finished their days work.

"Some colleagues become hardened to it, some think it’s part of the job. Others go home and consider whether they can face another day of rude and aggressive language?

"Welshpool Partnership operates a zero tolerance on verbal and physical abuse."
