A Berriew chapel has been recognised as a building of importance by Welsh heritage organisation Cadw.

Pentre Llifior Methodist Chapel has been upgraded by the organisation to Grade II listed status.

This means that the Georgian wayside chapel, constructed in 1798, is now recognised as "a building of importance and more than special interest".

The building is also the only Wesleyan chapel to be included in TJ Hughes' "Wales's Best One Hundred Chapels" and, despite it's location in mid-Wales, also features in Christopher Wakeling's "Chapels of England - Buildings of Protestant Nonconformity".

However members say that while Pentre Llifior has now been recognised as an historical site by both CADW and Methodist Heritage, it is also a "living" chapel with ongoing weekly services.

"Our doors are open, Covid protocols are in place to keep you safe, so pay us a visit - you won't be disappointed" said Mandy Thomas, chapel member.

"And even if heritage isn't really your thing you are still very welcome to pop in for a cup of tea and a chat during our opening times - it would be lovely to see you".
