NEWTOWN’S two sides in the Shrewsbury Netball League have returned to action following more than a year an d half of waiting on the sidelines due to the global pandemic.

Captain Ceri Anthony is excited to see how the season progresses after a last second goal sealed Newtown A’s 17-16 win over Recycles B with Cody Gethin earning player of the match plaudits.

Meanwhile Newtown Stars geared up for their league debut with a 25-6 win over Dolly Mixtures.

Halle Trigg stepped in to cover the absence of shooters and gave an assured display alongside Celyn Poyner while Medi Roberts controlled the centre third with good early balls into the circle.

Meanwhile Newtown Stars celebrated their very first match in the Shrewsbury League on Monday night with a 19-14 win win over Vixins.

Keira McVeagh was voted team player and players’ player of the match with an outstanding defensive performance.

Coach Lisa Trigg said: “It is great to be back.”
