Penybont 1 Newtown 1

NEWTOWN opened their account for the season with a battling draw in Bridgend on Saturday.

The home side broke the deadlock after just 15 minutes with a delightful ball from Mael Davies falling to the feet of Sam Snaith who tucked the ball into the bottom corner for his third goal in as many games.

Goalkeeper Dave Jones was kept busy as Penybont pressed with saves to deny Mael Davies and James Waite.

The Robins weathered the storm and hit back to level on the stroke of half-time with summer signing Aaron Williams firing beyond goalkeeper Ashley Morris for his second goal of the season.

Following a scrappy start to the second-half it was the mid Wales side which came to dominate with Williams firing over before Jordan Evans forced Morris into action after good work by David Cotterill.

The Robins continued to toil with Lifumpa Mwandwe testing Morris in the latter stages but Penybont held firm as the honours ended even.
