RYAN Edwards earned plaudits from across the board after clinching a bronze medal at the Manchester International on Wednesday.

The Welshpool High School student leaped to a podium place in the long jump with a distance of 6.90m - just short of his PB of 6.92m but enough to claim a bronze.

Edwards is among the stable of emerging young stars at Newtown-based Maldwyn Harriers Athletics Club and travelled to Manchester's SportCity as part of the Welsh squad to take on the rest of the Home Nations at senior and under 20 level.

Harriers coach Owen Cheshire said: "We’re proud of the hard work that Ryan has put in this season. Having missed most of his second U17 year due to the pandemic, he has improved his PB in 2021 and is seeing the rewards of his efforts. Well done Ryan, from all at Maldwyn Harriers.”
