Rallying returns to the Sweet Lamb Motorsport complex near Llangurig this Sunday,

Newtown and Aberystwyth motorclubs have joined in together to organize the first running of a new rally time trial, sponsored by Select Security Services.

Around 40 rally cars will descend on the venue to compete on six timed stages with all times being calculated up to find the winner on the event.

The action starts at 8.30am on Sunday and will continue throughout the day until 3.30pm.

Spectators can come along and watch the action with admission £10 per person.

Children will be admitted free of charge as organisers bid to bring competitive rallying back to the masses after two years of frustration die to the pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

The course promises plenty to entertain with jumps, water splash hairpins and a host of other popular features with Sweet Lamb formerly used to host the Wales Rally GB until World Rally Championship (WRC) organisers took the controversial decision to end the most popular rally in the calendar.

Since rally enthusiasts have looked to ensure fans continue to get their motorsport fix while also utilising the best forest rally stages in the world.

Sweet Lamb is a motor sport testing facility that specialises in testing rally cars and motorsport vehicles.

Rally cars that undergo development and testing plus rallying events form the majority of the use of the complex, but other activities including single venue rallying events and autotesting, while adventure motorbike events also take place here.

The local rally scene and economy continues to reel from WRC organisers decision to remove the Wales Rally GB from the iconic complex despite its popularity with crews and fans alike.

The decision has so far backfired with plans to host a rally out of Belfast no longer viable for 2022.

As a result, the UK will be once more without a WRC round this year, having been absent from the calendar since the 2019 edition of Wales Rally GB when it was last held in Wales.

However the new event promises to ensure a great family day out for rally fans with food and refreshments available at the venue.

Among the competitors is Builth Wells ace Jason Pritchard alongside co-driver Phil Clarke who are back on gravel after around 10 years competing on tarmac.

Pritchard, in a VW Polo R5m is is using the event as a shakedown to his British Rally Championship campaign.

Other crews include Bob Morgan/Ade Williams in a Skoda R5, Andy Davies/Michael Gilby in a Ford Fiesta R5, John Caine/ Benji Caine in a Subaru, Simon Rogers/James How in a Mitsubishi Evo 6, Mark Lennox/Ian Beamond in an Escort mk2; Olly Hunt/Andy Falconer in a Subaru, Richard Bennett/John Tomley in a Nova, Alun Jones/ Ifan Devine in a Mitsubishi Evo 4 and Chris Gittins/Chris Arnott in a BMW.
