A MEMORIAL game in honour of two club legends has been cancelled by Llanidloes Rugby Club.

Fans had been expected to descend on Cae Hafren on Boxing Day as the club celebrated the lives of the late Billy Jones and Tudor Francis-Jones.

However the match has been postponed due to coronavirus restrictions.

A club spokesman said: "It is with deep regret that we are having to postpone our Boxing Day memorial game for Billy and Tudor due to Covid restrictions.

"We will be looking for alternative dates to hold this fixture in the new year when restrictions allow."

Billy Jones was a founder member, president and chairman of the rugby club who died aged 86 in July. The club described him as a "“great life-long supporter”.

Tudor Francis-Jones sadly passed away in November 2020. People lined the roadside from Llangurig to Llanidloes to pay their last respects to the highly-regarded 49-year-old.
