LLANIDLOES Town manager Chris Davies has questioned the Welsh Government approach to sport during the pandemic.

Davies joined a national chorus of discontent who woke up today to discover the Welsh Government had reimposed supporter bans on Welsh sport in a bid to curb a rise in coronavirus cases.

However the Llanidloes Town manager said the Welsh Government treating all sports the same made no sense.

He also warned Welsh football would now be dealt another "big financial hit".

Davies said: "It’s a little surprising that this is the first step that’s been taken.

"I personally, find it strange that outdoor spectating of local football will not be allowed but people would be able to sit indoors in a clubhouse and watch football on the tv, or potentially through a window, without restrictions."

Davies said supporters would continue to get around the government ruling by watching through clubhouse windows or through fences - just as hundreds did throughout earlier lockdowns.

However Davies warned clubs would still have the same costs without being able to rely on gate receipts and sponsorship.

He said: "It’ll be tough for clubs who will lose income and tough for the supporters who will be without football over the festive period.

"I imagine we’ll see the same images of people watching from outside the perimeter fences, which can’t be stopped, but comes at a cost for the clubs who still have costs to cover."

Davies was disappointed the Welsh Government continued to treat all Welsh sport the same and insisted Welsh pyramid football should be treated on its own merits rather than banded together with the Welsh clubs competing in the English Football League (EFL).

He said: "Local football has taken a big hit by the Welsh Government's 'one size fits all' approach to sports in Wales and I fear we may be bracing for another."
