The coronavirus pandemic has claimed one of the highlights of the annual agricultural show season after Llanfair Caereinion and District show was cancelled this week.

In a statement issued by the show committee issued on Tuesday, June 29, organisers said that they were unable to continue with plans for this year's event due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding government guidelines for large events for the remainder of the year.

The show was also cancelled last year due to the ongoing pandemic.

"After a meeting last week the committee has come to the difficult decision to cancel this year’s show due to the COVID-19 situation," read the statement.

"To many of you, this news might be disappointing, but rest assured that this decision was not taken lightly.

"Due to the uncertainty of what Government guidelines will be in place by September and what the situation will be like in general, our priority is to safeguard public health."

One of the largest agricultural shows in Powys, Llanfair and District Show, now held just outside Llanerfyl, is considered one of the highlights of the show season.

Usually held at the end of the season, the show attracts entrants and visitors from across the county.

The show last took place in September 2019, when thousands descended upon Llysun Farm in glorious late summer sunshine.

The committee went on to thank the public for their "continued support and understanding"and said the show would return in 2022, set to take place on September 3, 2022.
