A POWYS cricketer has been included in the Welsh squad for the first ever Over 40s World Cup to be held in South Africa next year.

Dylan McPhee, who plays his club cricket for GB Liners Marches League side Builth Wells, will be part of the Welsh team which will be based in Cape Town from February 17th to March 2nd.

McPhee said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected to represent my country, it’s an honour to be part of and I can’t wait. It’s going to be an awesome experience.

“It’s going to be a very intense schedule with plenty of games and we are in a very tough group with several teams having ex-professionals in their squad and also the weather will make a difference as it’s going to be very hot.

“It’s been quite a journey in the last 12 months with plenty of hard work and going down to south Wales regularly to nets and trying to get into squad.

“I have knuckled down and it proves even at my age it can be done, remember age is only a number. I have already played three internationals this summer against England and Ireland which was a great experience.”

McPhee said the hard work would continue throughout winter.

He said: “I must thank my family and friends for supporting me in the last 12 months, taking me to nets and supporting me at the games and also Builth Wells Cricket Club for their support and providing facilities.

"The hard work starts now and we must prepare for February with nets and fundraising.”
