A HOST of star rugby players past and present have posted good luck messages to a Powys youth team aiming to win silverware at the Principality Stadium this weekend.

Builth Wells’ youth team have made it to the capital city where they will battle Bridgend Athletic on Saturday, April 23, for the Welsh Youth Cup.

The young Bulls are being backed by a mountain of support from home – with close to 1,000 people from Builth expected to be following them down in multiple convoys to Cardiff to watch the game at the home of Welsh rugby.

And they’ve also gained huge support online too – with the likes of Wales legends Jonathan ‘Jiffy’ Davies and Scott Quinnell and current star Adam Beard sending them good luck videos, as well as one from England international Maro Itoje.

In a series of clips posted on Builth Rugby Club’s Instagram account, current England and British & Irish Lions star lock Itoje, 27, said: “I want to wish the mighty Bulls youth a massive, massive good luck for your big final this weekend.

“You guys have had a great season, you’re in the final, championship time, big day rugby, so wishing you guys all the best. I know you’re gonna smash it, so just do your thing.”

Beard, 26, who toured with the Lions last year, said: “I want to wish you Builth boys all the best in your final in the Principality Stadium. Enjoy the occasion, go hard and I wish you all the best.”

There were also messages from some older, wiser heads, in former Wales internationals Davies and Quinnell – both now hugely popular television presenters.

Davies, 59, a former dual code Welsh international, said: “I’d just like to wish you lads at Builth Wells youth all the best against Bridgend at the Principality Stadium.

“Make sure you give your all, don’t leave anything in the tank. Try and enjoy it as much as you can. Obviously, you’ll enjoy it more if you win, but just do your best and enjoy your day. All the best.”

Quinnell, 49, has already played a role on social media for the club during this season, and the popular 49-year-old, also a former dual code star who represented the Lions, added: “Congratulations to Builth youth, who’ve done absolutely incredible getting through to the final, you’re going to have a great day at the Principality Stadium.

“For some of you it may be the first time you’ll play there, for some of you it may be the last, but the important thing is to go there, enjoy it, take in your surroundings and give it your all.

“Play 110 per cent, enjoy it together and hopefully you win.”

Kick-off at the Principality Stadium on Saturday is 3.30pm, with entry to the game free.
