During the weeks since the coronavirus erupted in the UK, everybody in society has had to adapt their behaviour and routines, writes County Times editor Thom Kennedy.

Most people will suddenly find themselves housebound, with no certainty about when they will next be allowed to go out to the pub, or to play sport, or to visit the cinema.

Our working lives have changed immeasurably as well, and that’s as true for the County Times as it is for anybody else.

But rest assured that over the weeks to come, we're committed to keeping you informed, sharing your news, and providing a voice of support for Powys.

And just as we'll be there to stand by you over that period, we'd appeal to you to stand by us too.

The next few weeks are going to be challenging for us. Already some staff have begun a period of furlough leave to help get us through this unprecedented period in history, but it's with the intention of continuing to have a strong title that will continue to represent Mid Wales in years to come.

Our offices may be closed to the public to help in the battle against coronavirus, our virtual offices remain open for business. We are still working day after day to provide you with information while abiding by the Government's social-distancing rules.

You’ll probably notice a few changes in the paper this week – our sport section, for example, is heavily abridged, as is our leisure section. Naturally, that’s because sport is in hiatus, and our theatres and cinemas are locked down.

But we’re going to be carrying some extra things in print, like extra days' television guides, and an eight-page puzzles supplement – we thought it might be something you’d enjoy given that you are most likely spending quite a bit of time cooped up at home at present.

In the coming weeks we’ll be looking at other things which we hope you’ll like during our collective period of isolation, including some delves into the archives to look at great stories from Mid Wales history.

And we'd like to hear from you about the things that you want more of, not only during this period but in the future too.

One thing that remains intact is our commitment to provide our readers with a reliable source of information during this outbreak.

Everything will look different during this current crisis, but we are here for you, to keep you informed and entertained. We hope that you will continue to stand by us during the same period.

Finally, we would once again urge you all to look after yourselves and one another to get through this.
