Concerns raised about the maintenance of Cae Bodfach Field

In a meeting of the council held earlier this summer, councillors agreed to form a working group to engage with residents after complaints were made about the long grass in the town’s community field.

A letter sent to the council raised concerns that there were “numerous complaints from local residents that it has become largely unusable”.

They added that “the grass is now knee height in many areas, creating several significant issues”, these include increased fire safety concerns in the current drought and an inability to remove dog waste.

Concerns were also raised that children have been unable to play in the field and that families have been unable to use it for occasions such as picnics.

They added: “We fully appreciate the importance of biodiversity and protecting wildlife. However, CaeBodfach is a community field, and there is already an abundance of natural habitat within the surrounding woodlands and orchard.

“We believe there should be a sensible balance between conservation and providing a usable public space”.

In the most recent meeting of the town council, it was noted: “Correspondence has been received from members of the public regarding the management and unkempt appearance of Cae Bodfach, with the areas such as the Stone Art installation and the area to the left of the path being specifically highlighted.

It was decided that “a meeting of the previously agreed working group will be convened as soon as possible”.

This will be followed by “a wider Working Group meeting”, with “invitations issued to residents across the community to discuss a more balanced management plan for Cae Bodfach”.
