Pugh family wins top sheep honours at Pantydwr Show

The Pugh family enjoyed a standout show, claiming the overall supreme sheep championship with a Suffolk ewe. They also won the any other breed (AOB) championship and the Group of Three competition with their AOB Charolais sheep.

Mike Rowlands also enjoyed a successful day, taking the hill breed championship with a Welsh ewe as well as winning the Welsh championship and butcher lambs championship.

The Griffiths family secured the Beulah championship and the Torwen badger face title, while Stuart Lane won the Torddu badger face championship.

Elsewhere, Ewan Rees won the Bluefaced Leicester championship, Tom Evans took the Texel championship, Michael Davies secured the Blue Texel championship and David Williams claimed the Welsh Mule championship. Layton Paver won the child handling championship.

Organisers thanked sponsor Rhayader Animal Health, as well as the Powell family of Llwyngwilym, Martyn Pugh of Garth Farm and Abberleys for their support.

The shearing competitions also attracted strong entries, with Gethin Lewis taking first place in both the open clean shear and open speed shear contests.

Tom Evans won the under-21 clean shear class and the under-21 speed shear competition, while Martyn Williams topped both local classes.

A spokesperson said: "An amazing day and night at Pantydwr Show, thank you to everyone who makes this happen.

"The Revi Races was a hit thank you to organisers, Adam, Ryan and Graham, and helpers.

"The shearing team, lambs crutching and running the event brilliant job and very well run and for shearers attending and competing.

"Everyone else who set up the field supply water/shade steward/help throughout the day, all in the field supplying refreshments fed and watered gates, hall, sheep and horse section and to frosty and meg for supplying the evening entertainment everyone who attended and entry in all sections."

The show committee also thanked judge Gary Meredith, commentator Roger and Shorty, Barry Evans for the loan of his shearing trailer, the Abberley family for supplying lambs and a range of local sponsors who supported the competition.
