A bus driver has admitted causing serious injury to a 94-year-old woman after a crash at a zebra crossing in Newtown.
Andrew Brown, 72, of Greenacres, Newtown, pleaded guilty at Welshpool Magistrates' Court to causing serious injury by careless driving.
The charge stated that on November 17 last year Brown caused serious injury to Gwyneth Gethin by driving a service bus on Canal Road without due care and attention.
The court heard the guilty plea means Brown faces a mandatory driving disqualification.
Referring to the circumstances of the collision, defence solicitor Robert Hanratty told magistrates it involved a "momentary lapse of concentration" when Brown glanced in his wing mirror as the woman stepped onto the zebra crossing.
Mr Hanratty said the case should be adjourned so probation services could prepare a report for the court.
The magistrates agreed and adjourned sentencing until August 18.
Addressing Brown, the bench said an interview with a probation officer would give him an opportunity to explain his account of events and provide information that could assist both probation and the court before sentence is passed.
Magistrates imposed an interim driving disqualification with immediate effect.
When told he could no longer drive, Brown replied: "That means I can't do my job."
The court heard all sentencing options remain open pending the preparation of the report.
Emergency services were called to Canal Road shortly after 1pm on the day following reports of a crash involving a bus and a pedestrian.
The collision happened at the zebra crossing near the footpath leading to Edwards Field and the River Severn bridge.
A police cordon closed the road between Barnfields and the McDonald's bridge on Cambrian Way while emergency services attended the scene.
An air ambulance landed nearby at Cae Cymric off Lower Canal Road, while ambulance crews, police officers and other emergency responders remained at the scene.
Brown, who used a walking stick as he arrived at and left court, will be sentenced on August 18.
