Cambrian Butchers takes over Llanidloes Williams Family shop

Twink and Lisa, of Williams Family Butchers, confirmed Saturday, June 27, was their last day behind the counter, bringing to an end 18 years of running their popular market hall shop in Great Oak Street.

In a heartfelt message, they paid tribute to loyal customers who had "also become very good friends," saying they were proud of everything they had achieved since taking over the business in December 2007.

They said the journey had been built on "blood, sweat and tears" and filled with "great memories to treasure," while remembering customers they had lost over the years.

The couple also praised their staff, describing the business as a true team effort.

Special thanks were given to long-serving team members, including Ruth, Roley, and Immy, along with a wider group of colleagues, past and present, who helped keep the shop running.

They also highlighted the role of local farms and suppliers, thanking them for providing "top notch" produce over the years.

Looking ahead, Twink and Lisa said they are now focusing on the next chapter of their lives and spending more time with family and friends.

They added they were pleased the business would continue under new ownership, wishing their successor well and thanking them for retaining staff.

The well-known town centre shop has now been taken over by Cambrian Butchers & Farm Shop, which already has sites in Newtown and Machynlleth.

The company described the acquisition as a "significant milestone" and said it would continue the Williams Family Butchers tradition while also introducing its own product range, including deli items such as game pies and sausage rolls.

Director Anthony Pryce said the business was "incredibly excited" to become part of the Llanidloes community, adding that the aim was to build on the shop’s strong reputation while bringing new opportunities.

"Williams Family Butchers has a fantastic reputation and a proud history," he said.

"Our aim is to continue that tradition while introducing some of the products, services and customer experience that our customers have come to know and love at Cambrian."

Cambrian Butchers said it will keep existing staff on, maintaining the values and service that made the business a cornerstone of the local community, while also creating new employment opportunities as it expands across Mid Wales.
