The article in your Politically Speaking column by Mr Steve Witherden MP last week entitled “North Sea oil drilling is no silver bullet” needs some correction.
The Labour Energy Minister Ed Miliband banned the issue of future drilling licences in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) which covers the North Sea oil and gas fields.
This was once again another disastrous decision made by the incompetent Labour Government in Westminster.
This decision was roundly condemned in the national press and respected institutions like Wood Mackenzie, an experienced company with views on the oil industry and Offshore Energy UK who’s Corporate Affairs Director, Natalie Cooper in a recent report stated “Official projections show several billions barrels of oil and gas still expected to be produced between now and 2050 from the UKCS”.

So where does Mr Witherden get his information from?
If it is the North Sea Transition Authority their reports have been questionable in the past because they are a government puppet department answerable to Ed Miliband and do not want to rock the boat.
The article admits the UK will be dependant on fossil fuels for some time so where do we get them from?
Imported fuels are expensive and gives away our independence to produce our own from the North Sea.
The banning of licenses to drill in the UKCS is a huge mistake even Norway continue to drill into the same basin.
President Trump said recently the Labour Government’s policy of banning drilling in the North Sea was a catastrophe.
The damage it will do to British Industry is yet to calculated.
The Prime Minister should do one of his usual U-turns and let us use our silver bullet.
