A familiar face is returning to lead a Powys town council.
Cllr Peter Lewis has been appointed Mayor of Llanfyllin, with Cllr Sean Cowham serving as Deputy Mayor.
In his acceptance speech, Cllr Lewis said he was "truly proud" to take on the role once again and thanked fellow councillors for placing their trust in him.
He paid tribute to outgoing mayor Cllr Andrew Griffin, who was recently elected to the Senedd, and thanked him for his “dedication, commitment, and service” to Llanfyllin.
Cllr Lewis said the role of mayor goes beyond ceremony, adding that it is about celebrating success and promoting the wellbeing and future of the community.
He called for councillors to continue working together “in a spirit of cooperation and positivity” for the benefit of residents.
Highlighting the council’s recent work, he pointed to more than £200,000 of external funding secured over the past two years, including support from the National Lottery and the Transforming Towns programme.
Projects delivered include the purchase of Cae Bodfach, improvements to wetlands boardwalks, partial refurbishment of public toilets, and shopfront enhancement schemes aimed at boosting the town centre.
He said further plans are in the pipeline, including potential Pride in Place funding to continue refurbishing facilities, install new play equipment and support the Coed y Cain bike park.
Cllr Lewis also praised the work of interim town clerk Jackie Griffin, who he said had played a key role in improving council processes and securing funding.
He added that while progress had been made, there was still more to do, encouraging residents to get involved and support the council’s work going forward.
