A woman in her 80s accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog has had the case against her dismissed after no evidence was offered by the RSPCA.
Martha Heulwen Davies, 87, of Foel, near Llanfair Caereinion had denied the charge when she appeared before Welshpool Magistrates’ Court in November last year. A trial had been scheduled for March.
However, it has now been confirmed that the case was brought to an end at a hearing in January after the prosecution offered no evidence, and it was subsequently dismissed.
The RSPCA had alleged that Ms Davies caused “unnecessary suffering” to a female collie-type dog named Juno at her home, Moelpart Farm.
She was accused of failing to provide “timely and effective” veterinary treatment for wounds to the dog’s right forelimb and lip, and that she “knew or ought reasonably to have known” that the failure would have that effect.
Following the decision, the charge was dismissed and Ms Davies faces no further action.
