One arrested after three car crash on A489 near Newtown

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that one person has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a crash on the A489 near Newtown.

The crash which took place yesterday evening (March 12) saw the road between Newtown and Caersws being closed for several hours by officers.

This saw major traffic delays in the area and diversions being put in place for motorists.

Police have confirmed the crash involved three vehicles and that one individual was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

The crash saw two other people being taken to hospital by ambulance with injuries that are not believed to be “life threatening”.

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a three-vehicle collision on the A489, Newtown Bypass, at around 5:50pm on Thursday 12 March.

“The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene and the vehicles were recovered. The road re-opened in both directions at around 9:45pm.

“Two people were taken to hospital by ambulance. No injuries are believed to be life threatening.

“One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.”
