Montgomery town set to benefit from major water upgrade

Hafren Dyfrdwy, the water company delivering the improvements, will begin replacing 1km of water pipes in Montgomery from February 2 as part of an £800,000 scheme to improve the network’s resilience for future generations.

Catherine Webb, community communications officer at Hafren Dyfrdwy, said: "We’re committed to ensuring Montgomery has a water network that’s fit for the future.

"This investment is a significant step towards improving the resilience and reliability of the water supply for our customers, not just for today but for generations to come."

The project is expected to continue until mid-July 2026 and aims to reduce the risk of leaks and supply interruptions.

Ms Webb said: "By replacing 1km of pipes, we’re reducing the risk of leaks and interruptions, helping to safeguard the resource for the community.

"We understand that work of this scale can cause some disruption, which is why we’re hosting a drop-in session to give residents the chance to speak directly with our team, ask questions, and share any concerns."

Hafren Dyfrdwy is inviting residents to a drop-in event at Montgomery Town Hall on Monday, January 19.

The session will run from 4pm to 7pm and give the community an opportunity to speak with the project team, ask questions, and voice concerns.

Ms Webb said: "Our goal is to keep everyone informed and supported throughout the project, and we really value the input of the local community as we deliver these essential improvements."

The company has reassured residents that all businesses will remain open during the works.

Access for residents will be maintained wherever possible, although there may be short periods when vehicle access is restricted while work takes place directly outside properties.

Residents will be notified in advance of any such restrictions.

Hafren Dyfrdwy has also advised retail businesses experiencing a loss of sales income due to the works to contact their Business Loss Team by emailing BusinessLoss@hdcymru.co.uk.
