Caersws river search finds 'no evidence' of person in water

Police, fire and ambulance crews scrambled to the River Severn in Caersws on Friday evening (August 22).

The alarm was raised after 8pm which led to emergency services from mid and north Wales sending numerous appliances to the scene, and a helicopter was also seen circling overhead.

But Dyfed-Powys Police have now said that no evidence was found of anyone having been on the bridge, or having entered the water.

A statement from the force said: "Dyfed-Powys Police received a report concerned for the welfare of a person who had entered the River Severn in Caersws at around 8.30pm on Friday 22 August.

"A multi-agency search found no evidence of a person on the bridge or entering the water. Enquiries will resume if new information comes to light."

"Then after the match at around 9.20pm we walked over to the bridge and there was a police car, ambulance, fire engine and a boat in the river searching.

"They also had a helicopter in the sky looking up and down the river and there was the fire and rescue service near the side of the river with torches."
