DOZENS of sports direct bags full of cannabis plant waste were fly-tipped in a woodland on the Powys border - but police say they are unable to take further action.

West Mercia Police made ‘extensive enquiries’ after 30-40 bags filled with cannabis plant waste were left in a wood on the Powys border.

West Mercia Police have confirmed that they will be unable to take any further action after dozens of bags were found in woodland in Bucknell near Knighton last month.

Officers said that the incident, which is thought to have taken place sometime near the end of September.

According to a report by officers in South Shropshire the incident was described as a fly-tipping incident which had “suspicious circumstances”.

In a report online an officer for West Mercia Police said: “30 – 40 bin bags and some Sports Direct bags containing cannabis plant waste were dumped in private woodland in Bucknell.”

According to the officer the large amount of waste appeared between September 21-23.

After being approached by the County Times, West Mercia Police confirmed that “extensive enquiries” were carried out into the unexplained fly tipping.

According to the force, officers in the area reviewed CCTV, made house to house enquiries and asked for door camera footage.

However, due to lack of evidence from these enquiries West Mercia Police have confirmed that no further action will be taken in the case at present.
