The family of a lifelong Llanfair United fan donated a cheque of more than £2,000 which was raised in a special memorial match earlier this year.
On Saturday, September 21, family and friends of Andy McVeagh presented a cheque of £2,500 to the British Heart Foundation ahead of a reserve game at the Llanfair Caereinion grounds.
Mr McVeagh was a Llanfair resident who was also a dedicated Llanfair Utd fan, former player, coach and father to one of Llanfair’s first team members, Ryan McVeagh.
He passed away suddenly at his home in September 2021, at the age of 56.

British Heart Foundation representatives Rhodri Thomas and Kieran McKavanagh paid a visit to the club to accept the cheque, which was presented by family and close friends of Mr McVeagh as well as some LLanfair United committee members.
A spokesperson for Llanfair United said via social media: “Ahead of yesterday’s Reserve game, the McVeagh family along with some close friends/committee members presented a cheque for £2,500 to the British Heart Foundation – Wales, which was raised at the Andy McVeagh Memorial Day in the spring.
“Thank you to everyone who supported the day in May.”
In the years since Mr McVeagh passed away, Llanfair United have held an annual charity match in remembrance to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, one of the charities people were asked to make donations to after his death.
This year’s match for the Andy McVeeagh Cup, held on May 5, saw Llanfair United’s current reserve side facing off against a team of veterans and was able to raise £2,500.
Describing the match at the time, Llanfair United said: “A wonderful day again on May 5 in memory of Andy McVeagh. A huge thank you to the community who supported the event in their hundreds. A massive shout out too to all our volunteers and organisers.
“A fun-filled junior festival took place in the morning before the Veterans v Reserves game which ended 3-3 with the Reserves retaining the trophy on penalties.
“A huge thank you to Phil Blagg, who not only played in goal for the Veterans team yesterday, but captured the day brilliantly with his camera too.”
