The “small store with a big heart” in Powys is up for two awards.
Woosnam & Davies in Llanidloes is the finalist in the Business in Community Award at the Powys business awards and for the Community Hero Award at the Better Retail Awards.
Owner Trudy Davies is well known throughout the town for her work in the community and is proud of the achievement of her team at the shop.
“I am so chuffed for my team and my community of Llanidloes to be the finalist of both these very prestigious awards,” said Trudy “But I have a little extra ‘happy dance’ feeling in my head for the Powys business awards.
“This is because it’s my home County and it’s covering all small businesses in all sectors.
“I feel quite honoured that although I know I have in the past always done my best within my sector of Retail but with the Powys awards it give us a big morale boost for the things I do in my community.
“It shows that we have and always have considered our Store to be a community focused Shop.”

Trudy has put together countless ideas for ways to support the local community but has a special pride in her ‘Made with Llani love’
“Last year alone we sent away 6,000 babywear items, handmade knitted by our community, to hospitals, care homes, emergency vehicles, baby charities and the homeless along with over 200 ‘comfort blankets that were given out to any organisation or individuals that were in need of them,” said Trudy. “They have gone all over the UK.
“My Community knitters knit all these. I just I suppose organise and provide a place a drop-off / pick up place and then I make sure that anyone who needs some get some.
“The wool is donated in the first instance and then individuals of the of the Community pick up the wool and then return whatever they make. I don’t specify what they have to make or anything like that I just say ‘you make it and I will find a place for it.’
“Then, in turn, I make sure it gets to somebody in need.”
“It fills me with joy when I’m sitting and packing all the beautiful items made, given with love to this enterprise we started.”
Trudy said her and her staff are motivated by pride in their hometown of Llanidloes
“The area and it’s people are very generous with their efforts time and love they give to everything we try to do,” added Trudy.
“We are a small store with a big heart.
“We can’t buy the smiles we receive on everyone’s faces when they handover their lovingly made knitwear.
“I think it give them a sense of achievement and that they are also giving back to their community both local and the wider area.”
