A new study has revealed the top 10 restaurants in Powys

MG Timber and Online Marketing Surgery have created their Restaurant Report, which looks at the best reviewed restaurants in Powys according to Trip Advisor.

With Trip Advisor data, they have ranked the best places to eat in the UK from the highest populated areas.

This has been compiled to create their Restaurant Report.

The George IV Inn, Cwm-twrch Uchaf 

The restaurant in the south of the county has received a string of excellent reviews related to its highly regarded Sunday lunches

Reviewers said: “Fabulous wide ranging menu to cater for all tastes with incredible staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a beautiful afternoon here celebrating two family birthdays in a superb, cozy surrounding. We will all return.

“What a gem of a place, the food was amazing, the portions were more than adequate, the staff were friendly and helpful, the music was nice and not too loud. We had a lovely evening for our anniversary and are hoping to come for a carvery soon, but have been told we need to book in advance as they are so popular, I’m not surprised.

Chapters Restaurant, Hay-on-Wye

The celebrated Hay on Wye prides itself on using local produce and making it spectacular. It has received a huge number of accolades – receiving the prestigious Slow Food Awards last year, as well as a Green Michelin star.

Reviewers said: “Each of the 5 courses on the taster menu was sublime in both flavours and texture of the ingredients. The fish and meat courses were evenly matched by the vegetarian options so no loss of culinary experience.

“Service was attentive and first-rate and even though we were a late sitting the meal was served at a leisurely pace.

“The restaurant is compact giving it a charming intimacy.”

Dyffryn Cafe & Restaurant, Welshpool

The café near Foel has had a great reputation for years. This has been earned by serving excellent breakfasts, delicious cakes and phenomenal service.

Reviewers said: “ First visit there today, really impressed. Food was spot on, prices very good and the staff were fantastic. Dog friendly too, which was a bonus. We'll be back at some point (live a long way away) and we will look forward to it.

Another said: “Paid a second visit to this little gem while on a short family break .The scenery is fantastic .The landscaping and arrangements of hanging baskets look fantastic and are a credit to the owner it's a really tidy / clean cafe/restaurant toilet spotlessly clean .The staff are both friendly and attentive the food is great and plentiful with a good choice

 

Gulshan, Newtown

The Broad Street restaurant has been gaining rave reviews from customers for it’s “superb” Indian food and friendly customer service.

Reviewers said: “Everyone around us said the same. It was fresh, tasty and delicious. They accommodated me as a vegan and my need for extra spice and I was astounded by the quality of the food.

“If this place can do this with no notice whatsoever and produce food of this high quality, I can't imagine how great the food is normally. I cannot find any fault.”

 

Fabian's Kitchen, Llandrindod Wells

Fabians Kitchen in Llandrindod Wells offers a mix of Indian alongside more traditional American classics such as Pizza, burgers or mouthwatering desserts.

Reviewers said: “This restaurant was recommended by a colleague who stayed across the street in the Metropole Hotel.

“We had a fantastic meal, the staff were wonderful and the wine was really good quality. I’d happily eat here again and again. I’d be a regular if I was a local.”

Another said: “A family run establishment which does a range of curries, burgers, kebabs and pizzas.

“I had the vegetable bhajis as a special starter which were lovely and to follow the Murgh (chicken) Makkani served with rice, poppadom and mango chutney and I thought was excellent value for a main dish.

“Staff are very helpful and friendly. Thoroughly recommend.”

Spice Fusion Indian Restaurant, Welshpool

The fixture on Severn Street is hugely popular with reviewers and locals for their excellently executed south Asian cuisine.

Reviewers said: “If you’d like a well-crafted curry eat here. We heard about this restaurant from a fellow walker and were welcomed on arrival. We both had a dish using Welsh lamb - succulent and tender with beautifully balanced spices. Try it.

Another said: “We called into Spice Fusion as we fancied a treat and, having read the previous good reviews, we were not disappointed. The food was lovely and very tasty, and the service was quick and efficient. There was lots of choice and when our food came the portion sizes were great.

Fabrizio's, Trewern

Another entry from the Welshpool area. Fabrizio’s award winning Italian food has been recognised nationally and is a firm favourite with customers on both sides of the border.

Reviewers said: “Having eaten a lot of Italian meals , many in Italy , the meal we had tonight was one of the best I have ever eaten. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. The meal was excellent value as well as being delicious.

Another said: “Fabrizio's is an asset to the Welshpool area. I booked online using the website, which was quick and easy.

“We received a warm welcome and were attentively looked after all night.

“The menu has plenty of choice without being overwhelming - the sort of well thought out menu where each dish sounds amazing and authentically Italian.”

Cosy Corner Bistro, Builth Wells

This family run restaurant “showcases cuisine from all over the world using locally sourced ingredients” and is a firm favourite amongst their loyal customers.

Reviewers said: “What a find! Delicious food freshly cooked and very quick service. Every dish was really tasty and cooked perfectly.

“Chicken gyozas were stunning and portobello mushroom with asparagus great too. The lamb bourguignon was really good & the pomme puree was superb.”

The Banc Knighton, Knighton

Described as a “modern bar and restaurant housed in a historic 1890’s bank and vault” it has been a favourite amongst reviewers who have raved about its excellent food and buzzing atmosphere.

Reviewers said: “Had a fantastic meal. Went on steak night. Cannot fault. Steak was amazing and the Black forest cheesecake. – wow.

“Service as always was impeccable. The Banc never fails to deliver. First class.”

Another said: “Love this place. Best food, friendly and welcoming staff and atmosphere. Always made to feel welcome for coffee and cake or tea and cake and lunch or dinner. It's right in the middle of town so on a warm day you can sit on the terrace and watch the world go by. Inside is warm and comfortable when it's chilly.

The Checkers, Montgomery

Finishing the list is the highly decorated Checkers. Previously a holder of a Michelin star it has lost none of its ability to wow customers with its high quality cuisine.
