Former Wales and British Lions star Mike Philips has announced that he will be lacing up his boots yet again as a special guest player in a charity match at the Heart of Wales 7s tournament near Llanidloes alongside Ospreys winger Hanno Dirksen and Powys’ Andy Powell.

One of Wales' biggest sporting weekends will also include a DJ set from ex-Cardiff and Wales back row Josh Navidi and performances from 2017 X-Factor winning act Rak-Su in the adjoining music festival.

Organisers will welcome more than 5,000 rugby, netball, rounders, hockey, sport and music lovers to Cae Hafren, Llanidloes from Friday, July 5, to Sunday, July 7.

The celebrity charity cup match at 7.30pm on Friday will have British and Irish Lions, Barbarians, Toronto Nomads, Llanidloes, Newtown and COBRA players playing in ‘Mike Phillips’ Dream Team’ which will be managed by a team led by Ospreys’ Sean Holley.

The Flaming Unicorns will see their own stars guest coaching with Adam Jones and Josh Navidi.

"We're not too far away from the big game in Llanidloes," Mike Phillips shared with fans.

"If you're not doing anything that weekend, get yourselves down there and please donate.

"I'm looking forward to seeing everyone down there again. I had an amazing time last year so let's enjoy it again this year.”

Last year’s Heart of Wales 7s charity cup match raised £12,000 for the mental health charity Tough Enough To Care (TEIC). This year the target is £5,000, according to the festival’s JustGiving page at

“With legends amongst us, Mike Phillips and Andy Powell are lacing up their boots for the Dream Team XV with Sean Holley coaching and 150+ Ospreys appearances winger Hanno Dirksen in the mix, you are in for a treat,” organisers said.

“The Flaming Unicorns will see their own stars guest coaching with Adam Jones Rugby and Josh Navidi supporting the TETC outfit.”
