Caersws Football Club's under 14s team got to meet a real-life Bluebirds legend when former Cardiff City defender and Wales international Danny Gabbidon dropped by to share some words of advice before their all-important cup match against rivals Llanidloes Town FC.
The final held in Llanidloes saw the junior Daffs win 4-2 on Saturday, May 18.
Ben Christofides, under 14s coach and Caersws FC Juniors chairman, said: “Ten minutes before kick-off, there was a knock on the changing room door and in comes Danny Gabbidon.
"I introduced him by saying ‘boys, this is a Bluebirds legend... he might not be the Caersws Bluebirds' but Danny said, ‘near enough, near enough!’.
"So, I said ‘deep down he’s routing for you today, boys,’ and I asked him if he had any advice for the cup final and he just said ‘look lads, enjoy things like this, it’s not often that you get to play in a cup final so take it in and enjoy the moment'.
"He told them about how he played in an FA Cup final and lost and how gutted he was but he said you don’t want that feeling of disappointment but just enjoy it.
"He was really good and spent a lot of time with the players and had lots of photos with them. It was a pleasure to meet him."
