FLINT MOUNTAIN have flexed their muscles in the North West League’s title tug o’war.

They headed to Llay Welfare for Wednesday’s top-of-the-table tussle knowing a defeat would put the hosts in pole position.

But in front of a bumper crowd of 464 at The Ring, Aden Shannon’s side deservedly ran out 5-1 winners and now hold a five-point advantage over Llay.

Mike Hayes’ close ranger header gave Flint a 14th minute lead and Calyn Spencer’s volley bounced off the ground and over keeper Cameron Dutton to make it 2-0 two minutes later.

Llay’s cause wasn’t help by a red card for Dan Lloyd a minute before the break and it got worse when Lloyd Ellams tucked home a penalty in stoppage time.

But Llay were back in it straight after the break. John Danby saved Tom Wells’ penalty but referee Adam Herbert, the busiest man on the night, claimed the former Chester and Connah’s Quay Nomads’ keeper moved off his line.

Wells scored with his second effort before Ellams was then shown a red card.

Goals in the last 12 minutes from Rob Hughes and Jack Sconce sealed a 5-1 win for Flint, who are back home at The Essity Stadium against Pwllheli on Saturday.

On Saturday, Llay, who still have a game in hand on Flint, head to St Asaph City, who drew 1-1 at Llannefydd on Wednesday night, knowing a top two finish would still give them the chance of making it into Cymru North via the end of season play-offs.
