WELCOME to another edition of bygones as we invite readers to join us in the 1970s.

Today we offer a sprinkling of the entire decade with a few pictures from the archive for all to enjoy. We also have a lovely diverse selection of topics to illustrate life in Powys.

As ever we encourage all our readers to share their pictures from the past with us so as many people as possible can enjoy and encourage all club secretaries and organisation heads to promote their group by sharing precious pictures from yesteryear.

What an amazing haul. Certainly these pupils and indeed the entire district surely had a reason to be thankful that year.

Were these a precursor to the popular ‘Ellie Dances?’ which entertained generations of youths?

County Times: Llanymynech residents walked around the parish limits in 1975.Next we venture to Llanymynech in 1975 when villagers took part in a walk around the parish boundaries.

This sounds like a wonderful event and a fantastic idea to bring people from towns and villages together.

County Times: A young Susan Bowen was all smiles at Sarn Show in 1979.We are also a big fan of the next picture which shows a beaming Susan Bowen after winning several arts and crafts events at Sarn Show in 1979. What a fantastic collage as well, we can certainly see why this young artist swept the board that summer.

County Times: Caersws Football Club line up 1979.Our next picture shows the Caersws Football Club team which lost 3-0 to Wrexham in a friendly in 1979. Recognise any familiar faces among this crop of Bluebirds?

We have no information which of these ladies took the crown or whether this event is still held but what a wonderful picture from a 1974.
