We are residents of Llawyrglyn and Staylittle and would like to ask the Community Council to pass a motion objecting to the application for a meteorological mast in Staylittle, which Bute Energy has applied for as as part of the Esgair Galed Energy Park Proposal.

The mast would stand out as an ugly eyesore on the hilltop near Hafren Forest, at an unprecedented height of 122.5 metres - 400 feet high.

We can see no justification for the mast since the wind farm application is at a very early stage and may well be rejected.

OTHER NEWS:

As the wind farm proposal is deemed to be a Development of National Significance, the application will be decided by the Welsh Government.

Therefore, the only chance that the people of Powys and Powys Planning Department have to make their views known is by rejecting this application for a meteorological mast.

The proposed windfarm would drastically alter the rare designated landscapes of special interest and historical value of that area.

We appreciate that the local landowners were approached and offered a handsome income by Bute Energy. The developers may well have implied that the windfarm development is inevitable and important for everyone’s future.

However, no benefits paid to them or the community could offset or mitigate the kind of devastation such a project would cause.

These turbines would be higher than any in England or Wales and if such gigantic monstrosities were ever erected in our locality, they would certainly have a detrimental effect on health, happiness and sanity.

The wild land is our greatest asset and must be saved.
