ERIC Ramsay is set to leave Manchester United to become the youngest manager in Major League Soccer (MLS) history, reports say.

The 31-year-old former Llanfyllin High School student and current Manchester United coach has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Minnesota United, with talks ongoing, according to reports from The Athletic.

Ramsay has worked under several managers in Manchester, staying on through different regimes and rising at the club.

Ramsay joined the club as a player development and set-piece coach under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He remained under Ralf Rangnick and grew in importance on Erik ten Hag’s staff after the Dutchman was appointed manager ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Ramsay was also an assistant coach for the Wales national team for six months in addition to his duties with United, before stepping away last year.

Ramsay previously worked as an under-23 assistant coach at Chelsea and speaks fluent Spanish.

After leaving the youth academy at The New Saints, Ramsay made 14 appearances as a player in the Cymru Premier for Welshpool Town, before going to university and focusing on coaching.

Ramsay was the captain of the Wales national futsal team for the UEFA Futsal Euro 2014 qualifying campaign, a sport he played throughout his time at Loughborough University. 

After graduating, Ramsay spent nearly four years as a Lead Professional Development Phase Coach at Premier League club Swansea City, coaching the club's under-21s and under-18s.

He became academy manager at Shrewsbury Town in 2017, and subsequently worked with the club's first-team as interim manager then first-team coach. 

Ramsay joined Chelsea in 2019, where he coached the club's Premier League 2 winning under-23s and became the youngest British coach to achieve the UEFA Pro Licence.[
