Open letter to Russell George.

I admire your spirited campaign to keep the Welshpool airbase open for the Air Ambulance.

However, I understand that one of the main worries about it is the extensive flooding of road access to the base which already occurs, and is likely to get worse in the future, as the effects of global warming become more acute.

It has been reported that the emergency services are particularly concerned about this, but I don’t see any mention of this in your report nor is it included in your suggested responses.

On the same tack, Powys County Council have recently commissioned a report looking at the likely impacts of global warming on their ability to deliver their services.

OTHER NEWS:

More frequent and severe flooding is highlighted in this report.

I think you have missed an opportunity to make local people aware of some of the problems that they will have to face as a result of the climate emergency.

All decisions about future investments and future service delivery need to be made within the context of increased resilience to the more extreme weather events that are already manifest.

Perhaps in your next newsletter you could initiate a conversation with your readers on how we here in Montgomeryshire can best ensure that improving climate resilience becomes embedded in everything that we do, going forward.

I think this would meet with a positive response from most people.
