A few months after re-opening as a multi-purpose venue, an iconic Llandrindod Wells building was awarded with a prize for their lighting display by the town council.

In December, Llandrindod Wells Town Council representatives, including Cllr Marcia Morgan and Cllr Laurence Weerdmeester-Price, met with local traders to present the prizes and certificates for the Llandrindod Wells Town Council's Festive Lighting Committee Shop Window Competition for 2023.

Coming in first place was The Bradleys building on Middleton Street, with owners Adam Faust and Kate Milson accepting the award.

The award comes after the building was revitalised in 2023, transforming into a multi-purpose venue capable of housing a recording studio, art gallery, wine bar and café.

Adam and Kate spent four years renovating the building, having purchased it in 2019, eventually transforming the former department store after a few setbacks.

Upon opening in October 2023, Kate said: “We’re really encouraged by so much support we’ve had already and people popping their heads in and saying they can’t wait for us to open.”

As an artist, she also serves as curator of the Kilvert Gallery, opened in 1986 at Ashbrook House, the former residence of the Victorian diarist Francis Kilvert, in Clyro, near Hay-on-Wye, reopening the gallery at Bradleys.

Adam has a background is in music, merging his own experience with the venue’s multi-purpose format, having worked in London punk, hip hop and dance circles since the mid-1970s. He has worked with acts such as Babyshambles, Catatonia and the Manic Street Preachers.

The theme for the council’s Festive Lighting Committee Shop Window Competition for 2023 was Recycled/Upcycled, likely taking note of the repurposed building housing a variety of new creative industries.

Joint second prize went to the British Red Cross and The Bracken Trust, while Doves and Dandys received third prize from the council.
