In your recent article, it appears Bute Energy claim that “approximately” six million pounds per year will be available to communities near the proposed windfarms and the pylons “needed” to export the energy produced.

As I understand it, this would include not only the proposed Llyn Lort “energy park” but others that they may be planning and which may also be linked to this pylon route.

Their plans, therefore, may be rather more ambitious than we are currently being told.

Perhaps other windfarm developers will also want to link to the project.

It sounds a lot of money, doesn’t it? Surely worth a few turbines and some supposedly not very big pylons.

If that’s what you think, try visualising one 220 metre high turbine. Imagine the blades turning. Remember that at night there will be red lights on top of the nacelles and these will appear to flash as the blades rotate. Not too bad, you think? Now try to visualise 50 or more.

Remember they will be on hilly ground and visible over long distances. Has your opinion changed yet? Would you feel differently if you had one or more close your home?

Local organisations, charities and community groups may well be happy at the prospect of money. That’s good.

Landowners “hosting” turbines or pylons will do well. That’s good too – but what about residents living near to these turbines?

What about local tourist business which will, I’m sure, be blighted by these turbines? I’m sure there won’t get any of that lovely cash.

I feel it would be a pity if this pot that Bute are “selling” to communities were to make people forget the huge downside of these enormous projects.
